Blaine, MN · Anoka County
Sunshine Sprinkler Systems is a local irrigation company serving Blaine, MN with sprinkler installation, repair, spring startups, winterization, and commercial irrigation service. We have been doing this work in the Twin Cities metro for 40 years. Blaine is Anoka County's largest city and one of its fastest-growing, anchored by the National Sports Center and a major new entertainment district under construction at 105th Avenue. It is an active irrigation market with year-round watering restrictions and some of the hardest municipal water in the metro. Both of those details matter for how a system is designed and maintained here.
Service 01
When we install an irrigation system in Blaine, the owner lays out every job personally. Jon has been designing irrigation systems for 40 years, and that experience shows up in the design. Blaine's water hardness runs 18 to 21 grains per gallon, among the highest in the metro. Hard water causes scale to build up in irrigation heads and controller components over time. We select heads rated for hard water environments and design systems with that in mind from the start.
We zone by arc pattern, quarter circles and full circles never share a zone, and we nozzle every head to match precipitation rates across each zone. Blaine's year-round odd/even restrictions mean a smart controller provides compliance value every month of the year, not just during irrigation season. If you are planting new sod after installation, call Blaine Public Works at 763-785-6165 before you start. The city requires advance notice to issue a 30-day new sod watering exemption.
Every estimate is done on-site in under an hour. We check your water pressure, inspect your plumbing, measure the yard, and hand you a written quote before we leave. All plumbing work is included. We offer Good, Better, and Best installation packages, with the Better and Best tiers including a Hydrawise smart controller.
Additional Services
Mid-season problems happen: broken heads, stuck valves, leaks you do not notice until your water bill arrives. Our service technicians carry Hunter, Toro, and Rain Bird parts on every truck, so most repairs get handled in a single visit. We service all makes and models, including systems we did not install. Blaine's hard water makes regular head inspection and cleaning more important than in softer-water cities. Scale buildup is a cumulative maintenance issue.
We offer spring startup service throughout Blaine each season. We turn the water on, fire up every zone, inspect the heads, check for leaks, and make any needed adjustments. If we find something that needs repair while we are there, we open a separate work order at an hourly rate. Blaine's odd/even restrictions run year-round, and the 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. blackout applies from May 15 through September 15. Spring startup is the right time to confirm your system is programmed for your address before the seasonal blackout window activates.
Before the ground freezes, every irrigation system in Minnesota needs to be blown out. Water left in the lines will expand, crack pipes, and damage heads and valves over winter. We schedule fall blowouts throughout Blaine each season. Call early as our fall schedule fills fast.
Commercial Irrigation
Blaine has one of the most significant commercial irrigation markets in Anoka County. The National Sports Center, a 700-acre campus and the largest amateur sports facility in the world, has extensive outdoor fields, landscaping, and common areas. The 105th Avenue development district, a $750 million project with a baseball stadium, hotels, restaurants, apartments, and a Scheels anchor, is the largest single new commercial landscaping pipeline in the region.
Industrial parks, hotels, and retail corridors along Highways 65 and 610 round out the market. We provide commercial irrigation service for sports facilities, business parks, HOA common areas, new development projects, and retail and institutional properties throughout Blaine.

We have been installing and servicing irrigation systems in the Twin Cities metro since the mid-1980s. We know Blaine's hard water conditions and year-round compliance requirements well.
Jon personally designs every new installation. You are not getting a two-year foreman with a tape measure. The person who built your system is the same person who designed it.
Jon, his son Sam, and Jolene run this business. When you call, Jolene picks up. When we come to measure, it is Jon. When install day comes, it is Jon and Sam.
More Google reviews than our local competitors, and we earn them one job at a time. No franchise standards. No shortcuts. Every system is one we stand behind.
Blaine is one of the few cities in the metro with year-round odd/even watering restrictions. These apply every day of the calendar, not just during irrigation season. Odd-numbered addresses water on odd-numbered days; even-numbered addresses water on even days. From May 15 through September 15, no watering is allowed between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Private irrigation wells are exempt from the municipal ordinance. New sod and landscaping get a 30-day exemption from the odd/even rule, but you must call Public Works at 763-785-6165 to request it before installation. Unpaid fines for watering violations are certified to Anoka County and collected through property taxes.
