Sprinkler Installation & Irrigation Services in Minnetonka, MN

Sunshine Sprinkler Systems serves Minnetonka, MN with sprinkler installation, repair, spring startup, winterization, and commercial irrigation. Minnetonka is one of the most prominent inner-ring suburbs in the metro — home to major corporate campuses, wooded rolling terrain, and an established housing stock where system upgrades and replacements are as common as new installs. The city's rebate program covers both smart controllers and WaterSense sprinkler heads, with a June 2026 application deadline.

Sprinkler System Installation in Minnetonka

Minnetonka's housing stock has a median construction year of 1981, which means a significant portion of existing irrigation systems — where they exist at all — are 30 to 40 years old. These aging systems are often undersized for current plant material, running on outdated controllers, or simply no longer functioning as designed. Upgrade and replacement installs are a major part of what we do in Minnetonka, alongside first-time installs in homes that never had irrigation.

The city's terrain is notably varied — rolling, heavily wooded, with Minnehaha Creek running through the city and multiple lakes touching the eastern boundary. Heavy tree canopy creates significant shading variation across individual properties, which affects zone design and runtime programming. Silty clay loam soils have low infiltration rates and benefit from cycle-and-soak scheduling rather than one long runtime per zone. We account for all of this during the design phase.

Minnetonka's watering rebate program covers replacement upgrades at 75% of cost: up to $100 for a WaterSense smart controller and up to $200 for WaterSense-labeled sprinkler heads. The rebate applies to replacements only — not new installs — and applications must be submitted by June 30, 2026. Jon personally designs every installation and provides a written quote on-site. No obligation, no surprises.

Repair, Startup & Winterization

Sprinkler Repair in Minnetonka

With so much of Minnetonka's irrigation infrastructure dating to the 1980s and 1990s, aging components are a regular repair category: failing valve solenoids, cracked lateral lines from tree root intrusion, broken heads from landscaping, and outdated controllers that can no longer be programmed correctly. We carry Hunter, Toro, and Rain Bird parts on every truck and service all makes and models. Most repairs are completed in a single visit.

Spring Sprinkler Startup in Minnetonka

We offer spring startup service throughout Minnetonka each season. We turn the water on, run every zone, inspect heads, check for winter damage, and verify the controller is programmed correctly for Minnetonka's odd/even schedule. The city requires a Public Works permit to water new sod outside restricted hours — we handle that notification as part of new install startup so you are covered from day one.

Sprinkler Winterization in Minnetonka

Every irrigation system needs a compressed-air blowout before freeze-up. Water left in lines expands, cracks pipes, and damages heads over winter. Minnetonka's clay-heavy soils retain water around pipe runs, making proper blowout especially important. We schedule fall winterizations throughout Minnetonka each season. Call early — our fall calendar fills quickly throughout the metro.

Commercial Irrigation

Commercial Irrigation in Minnetonka

Minnetonka has one of the largest corporate employment bases of any suburb in the metro. UnitedHealth Group's 1.1-million-square-foot headquarters, Cargill's wooded campus near Gray's Bay, and Carlson Companies are all based here. The Opus Business Park corridor, Ridgedale Center, and the I-394 commercial strip add significant maintained commercial landscape. City-owned parks including Purgatory Park (155 acres) and The Marsh fitness center round out the public sector commercial picture.

We provide commercial irrigation installation and service for corporate campuses, business parks, retail centers, city parks, and athletic facilities throughout Minnetonka's 27 square miles.

Minnetonka's Watering Rules & Rebate Program

Minnetonka enforces seasonal outdoor watering restrictions from May 1 through September 30 each year. Even-numbered addresses may water on even-numbered calendar days; odd addresses on odd-numbered days. No watering is allowed between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. during the restriction season. Penalties may be imposed for each day of violation. During drought conditions, the city has previously expanded restrictions to prohibit all non-essential outdoor water use during an even wider midday window — a smart controller with weather-based scheduling helps you stay compliant automatically.

If you are watering new sod or seed outside the standard restricted hours, you need a temporary permit from Minnetonka Public Works (call 952-988-8400). Hand-watering new sod with a hose is allowed any time without a permit. Properties on private wells or other non-city sources are exempt from the restriction ordinance but must register with the city and display a yard sign. The city's rebate program is active through June 30, 2026: 75% back on a WaterSense smart controller (up to $100) and 75% back on WaterSense-labeled sprinkler heads (up to $200). Replacement installs only; contact irrigationrebates@minnetonkamn.gov.
